Privacy policy

This policy explains what seemy.beer collects, why, and your choices. The product is a tap-sign display for PerfectDraft machines.

Who the data controller is

The data controller is Brett Jenkins, a sole trader trading as TidyLabs, of 52-56 Standard Road, London, NW10 6EU. Contact: [email protected].

seemy.beer is a product of TidyLabs. TidyLabs and seemy.beer are trading names of Brett Jenkins, a sole trader. The TidyLabs privacy policy covers everything that is true of the controller whichever product you use: your rights, how to complain, how long data is kept, and where it goes. This page covers what is specific to seemy.beer, principally the hashed device identifier that paid licensing runs on, and who you are actually buying from.

What we collect & why

  • A hashed device identifier. To license a sign, the device sends a one-way hash of its network MAC address (sha256(mac)). The raw MAC is never sent. This is how a subscription attaches to a specific sign. A hash is pseudonymous, not anonymous (it consistently identifies the same device), so we treat it as personal data.
  • Payment & customer details. Your email, billing country and payment details are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. Who Stripe is acting for depends on where you are, which the next section explains. See Stripe’s privacy policy.
  • Your email address, as a customer. Every customer is held in Kit so we can reach you about your own subscription: a billing problem, a firmware issue affecting your sign, a change to the service. Those are service messages, not marketing, and there is no opt-out from them in the same way there is none from a receipt.
  • Marketing email, only if you ask for it. Separate from the above. If you tick the optional box at checkout you go on the product-update list, which is double opt-in: nothing is sent until you click a link in a confirmation email, so if that email never arrives you are not on it. Every marketing email carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing changes nothing about your subscription or about the service messages above. See Kit’s privacy policy.
  • Support correspondence. If you email us, the conversation is held in Help Scout. That means your email address and whatever you tell us about your problem. See Help Scout’s privacy policy.
  • An anonymous device-activation count. How many signs have been activated, with nothing attached to it.
  • Which notices your sign has seen. When there is something we need to tell you about your sign, it displays a notice. The sign reports back which notices it has displayed and which have been marked as read, against the same hashed device identifier used for licensing, so we can tell how many signs have seen a message.
  • Basic technical logs. Cloudflare (our host) processes standard request logs to serve and secure the site.
  • Cookieless analytics. Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and does not track you across sites or build a profile.
  • Webfonts from Google. Your browser fetches the two typefaces this site is set in directly from Google, so Google sees your IP address as a result. Nothing about what you do here is sent to them.

Who you are buying from, and what that means for your data

This genuinely depends on where you are, and it changes who holds your payment record and who you deal with afterwards.

  • In the United Kingdom, you buy from us, Brett Jenkins trading as TidyLabs. Stripe processes the payment on our behalf and issues the receipt in the name of TidyLabs. The payment record is ours, held by Stripe for us.
  • Everywhere else we sell, Stripe is the Merchant of Record and trades to you as Onelink. The sale is legally Stripe’s: your purchase shows as “Sold through Onelink”, your bank statement reads LINK.COM*, Onelink issues your receipt, and you manage or cancel your subscription at link.com. Your payment record is theirs, held under their own privacy policy, and we see only what the checkout hands back to us.

Either way what reaches us is the same small set: the hashed device claim, which plan you chose, your billing country, and whether you ticked the marketing box.

One practical consequence worth knowing: if you ask Stripe to delete your data, Stripe cancels the subscription and deletes the customer records, including the copies held in our account, and tells us it has happened. You can ask either of us; the effect is the same.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies. The analytics are cookieless, there is no advertising and no cross-site tracking, so there is nothing to consent to and no banner to click through.

You may still be carrying one from elsewhere on seemy.beer, and it is fairer to say so than to claim a clean sheet your own browser would contradict. Our price tracker and codes board set smb-age to record that you passed their age check, scoped to the whole of seemy.beer so you are not asked twice. This site has no age check and neither sets nor reads it. The codes board’s privacy page explains it in full.

Affiliate links

Our parts list links to Amazon using an affiliate tag, so we may earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. The tag is simply part of the link address: we set no cookie for it and run no tracking script, and we are not told who clicked or what you bought. Once you follow the link you are on Amazon’s site, where their own privacy policy and cookies apply.

How the device identifier is handled

Licensing is keyed on the hashed device identifier rather than your email, so the sign can unlock regardless of which email you paid with. Your email exists only in the payment record and, if you contact us, in support correspondence. Because the subscription’s device code and the payer’s email are both held at the payment layer, they can be correlated there; the on-device licence check itself only ever uses the hashed identifier.

Subscriptions, cancellation & refunds

Paid modes are billed monthly and include a 14-day free trial, during which nothing is taken. You can cancel any time, from the billing portal if you bought from us, or at link.com if Onelink was the seller, and access continues to the end of any period you have paid for. Your statutory rights under UK and EU consumer law are unaffected. The full position is in our Terms.

Data deletion

Email [email protected] and we will action it across everywhere it lives: the licence record (keyed by sha256(mac)), the anonymous device-activation count, your sign's notice-read records, the payment and customer record at Stripe, your customer record and any marketing subscription at Kit, and any support correspondence at Help Scout.

Some of it we have to keep. A paid invoice is a tax record before it is anything else, and a suppression record (your email address and nothing else) is what stops you being added back to a marketing list by accident. We will tell you plainly which parts those are rather than quietly keeping them. Deletion is one of the rights set out in the TidyLabs privacy policy, which also covers how to complain if you are unhappy with the response.
